Establishing Baselines

Many customers struggle to set effective threshold-based alerts because they don’t have sufficient historical data or granular enough data on what is normal in terms of utilization, errors, discards, latency and other performance metrics.  Operations staff have to guess where to put a static threshold and then hope they don’t get too many false positive alerts as they monitor the performance of their infrastructure.

By building a baseline and tracking the actual performance levels, SevOne customers gain quick and accurate information on what typically happens on their network, servers, or applications.  SevOne keeps all collected in its raw state and builds an accurate baseline value for each performance indicator that we monitor.

When you run a report you can see your numerical baseline value in a tabular fashion or as a dashed line on the graph that represents the baseline value over time.  This dashed line provides a quick visual way to see how current performance compares to the baseline values.
