Distributed Peer-to-Peer Architecture
SevOne is designed to scale to millions of network elements using a distributed architecture based on peer-to-peer principles. Each appliance can be deployed standalone, or it can be joined with others in a peering environment. When peered with others, each appliance collects data from all devices it is responsible for, and any number of appliances can be peered together. By logging into any of the peered appliances, a user can see and report on any performance indicator, on any device monitored, by any appliance in the peering environment. The scalability bottleneck in traditional hierarchical systems has always been the central reporting server. No matter how big a reporting server is used, it can never scale to keep up with the demands of an increasing number of collectors. Therefore, the performance management system slows down and a single report can take hours to generate.
SevOne's Distributed Peer-to-Peer Architecture
SevOne's peer-to-peer distributed architecture utilizes redundant hardware and software to guarantee maximum reliability and speed. In SevOne, each appliance acts as both a collector and a reporter. In this environment, all appliances are aware of which device is being monitored by each peer, and can appropriately route data requests. Thus several appliances can work together on one report in parallel, effectively multiplying the power of a single reporter.
Speed at Scale
The SevOne architecture not only scales linearly, without loss of efficiency as additional peers are added, but gets faster. When a SevOne appliance receives a request from one of its peers, it processes the request locally and sends the requesting peer only the data it needs to complete the report. If a report spans multiple peers, each SevOne appliance works on its part of the same report simultaneously—and results are delivered within seconds or less.
