The SevOne Device Manager is responsible for managing the device discovery process and device inventories. Device discovery is the process for querying and updating information about the devices that are present in the SevOne network performance management system. At discovery time, the various technologies configured for each device, such as SNMP or JMX, are tested and the device's current state is updated. Device discovery creates new elements in the system, updates existing elements, and ultimately deactivates and deletes unused elements.
A SevOne PAS is typically configured with a set of IP address ranges for the initial device discovery process. During normal system operation, device discovery can be triggered automatically by changes made to devices through the SevOne web console, and it can also be scheduled manually by a user. Device discovery runs automatically every 24 hours if no discovery for a device was recently triggered.
The device discovery process has many configuration settings to ensure that it can be tuned for your environment.
