SevOne Helps Foster the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs

Beantown Throwndown

We believe in the power of fresh ideas. That’s why we were proud to sponsor the Beantown Throwdown last night at Hatch Fenway. This event is the signature event of HUBweek, a weeklong, city wide festival celebrating innovation and creativity in Boston.

Jim Melvin gave the opening remarks at the Beantown Throwdown, where student entrepreneurs from 12 Boston colleges and universities pitched their ideas to the audience. The best idea was then selected by the group of venture capitalists, startup founders, C-Suite officers, and technology enthusiasts.

Melvin discussed how important it is to be able to pivot when working in a startup atmosphere. He reflected on his own experiences over the past 30 years and shared how he’s worked to keep up with the quickly changing technology ecosystem. He detailed some of his blunders and successes along the way, and encouraged the students to keep persevering and innovating.

After his address and the student pitches, the audience was given the opportunity to vote for their favorite startup idea. The winners were presented with benefits and bragging rights. This year’s winners were:

  • First Place: AskMolly
  • Second Place: Dropzone for Veterans
  • Third Place: EchoMe

The Beantown Throwdown was a fun, exciting, and collaborative event. We can’t wait to see what these talented students do in the future.
