SevOne Joins TM Forum Catalyst Demonstration of Big Data Driven OSS

Press Release

SevOne Provides Access to All Data Including Integrated Metrics, Flows and Logs for Continuous Service-Delivery Insight

WILMINGTON, DE – June 2, 2015SevOne, the only digital infrastructure performance monitoring solution engineered for Speed at Scale, today announced it will be part of TM Forum’s Big Data Driven OSS Catalyst Project. Championed by KDDI, and working with Cisco, alongside Moogsoft, Ontology and Huawei, this Catalyst will be demonstrated at TM Forum Live! today through June 4, at the Palais des Congrès Acropolis in Nice, France.

Many Operational Support Systems (OSS) functions can be treated as Big Data problems—data flowing rapidly from many disparate sources need to be understood quickly, in aggregate and in context, triggering appropriate and real-time actions. This Catalyst will show how open-source Big Data technologies can be applied to collect and publish multiple data sources, enabling OSS analytics applications to leverage the full value of the OSS dataset. As an example, the Catalyst will demonstrate how service assurance can be implemented as a Big Data pipeline for managing the whole lifecycle of services that incorporate virtualized network functions.

The evolution of virtualization and its application to network functions enables a much more dynamic and potentially efficient service provider infrastructure. However, this potential will not be realized without an OSS that can monitor its many degrees of performance in real time. The end-to-end availability and performance of virtual managed services and cloud services as experienced by the end user depends on a number of sub-services that are often provided and operated by different entities. This calls for an infrastructure monitoring solution that can provide access to all your data—including performance metrics, flows and logs—in real-time for continuous service delivery insight.

“When performance degradation happens, it is often very difficult to isolate the cause and even the domain of the problem,” said Ken Dilbeck, Vice President of Collaboration Research and Development for TM Forum. “This Catalyst demonstrates how an open dataset covering the entire OSS can enable the required agile management – informing requirements of service providers and in turn the standards for OSS vendors.”

"We believe that Big Data will form the basis for differentiation and growth for many organizations", said JL Valente, Cisco vice president, cloud and virtualization group. "For service providers, Big Data opens up opportunities to better serve their customers, anticipate service and infrastructure issues, and meet their SLAs.”

“Today’s rapid, on-demand infrastructures are creating a data deluge, requiring organizations to derive new and critical insights from integrated performance metrics, flows and logs at scale to advance their business and cause,” said Vess Bakalov, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at SevOne. “However, these infrastructures are stretching legacy monitoring tools to the breaking point. With multiple metrics, tidal waves of data and fluctuating demand, SevOne is answering these challenges, delivering a new approach that’s helping companies effectively monitor their infrastructure and deliver vital applications and services.”
